Press Release
NewsNow delivers 25 million headlines
March 3rd 2003
The UK's leading online news monitoring service, NewsNow, has passed
another milestone by delivering its 25 millionth headline.
NewsNow is well known for its news portal and tailored newsfeed services
that create an easy way for Internet users to keep an eye on news as it
breaks across a host of web sites.
"This is a superb achievement," said Nick Gilbert, NewsNow Chief
Executive.
"Were obsessed with news and reaching 25 million is a reminder of how far we
have come since we launched five years ago. I think reaching this milestone
is testament to the support of hundreds of publishers and thousands of
subscribers. We have all come a long way since we launched back in the heady
days of the dotcom bubble.
"We know that our subscribers expect a non-stop fault-free service with
access to headlines at any time so we have put a lot of effort into creating
the right level of service. In recent months we have strengthened our
bandwidth offering, our hardware specification and the quality of our
technology to make sure that we can carry on for the next 25 million
headlines."
NewsNow tracks about 200,000 headlines per day, amounting to 1.7m per
month.
To ensure that NewsNow users can search easily through old headlines we keep
a database of 30 days which requires about 500Mb of storage.
NewsNow recently passed the 7000 news source barrier, offering links to news
from more online publications than any other news search service.
NewsNow customers include IBM, AMD, Cable and Wireless, and Direct
Line.
"NewsNow has been one of the most responsive suppliers I've worked with. We
have never had any issues, either technical or otherwise that haven't been
sorted out swiftly and efficiently," said Katie Hadgraft, Group Internal
Communications Manager, Cable & Wireless.
